“Yichuan 4.0: A New Chapter,” jointly organised by a passionate team of students and academic advisors from UTAR, successfully concluded on 19 April 2025. The charity concert attracted over 600 enthusiastic attendees and served as a welfare aid initiative in support of UTAR Hospital. It was more than just a cultural event; it was a collective expression of creativity and compassion in support of public healthcare.
Launched in 2021, the Yichuan series was initiated by UTAR students as a platform to combine artistic performance with philanthropy. What began as a modest student-led showcase has since evolved into an annual tradition that brings together art, youth leadership, and community spirit.
Despite having only two months to prepare, the student team, under the guidance of their mentors, delivered an exceptional performance. From show planning and stage design to fundraising execution, every detail was handled with precision and professionalism.
The organising committee extended special thanks to Mr Jeff Lai, Vice President of the Branding Association of Malaysia, for his generous support. Mr Lai sponsored 10 original paintings as part of the event’s fundraising and operational efforts. His contribution not only enhanced the artistic ambience of the event but also demonstrated the creative industry’s recognition of youth-driven cultural and charitable initiatives.
The evening featured a wide variety of performances, including skits, musical acts, and dance, all creatively tied to this year’s theme River of Art: New Chapter. What set this year apart was the bold introduction of American comic art elements into the stage design and performance segments, a first in the Yichuan series. Bright visuals, stylised backdrops, and dynamic character portrayals brought a fresh, contemporary twist that delighted the audience and visually echoed the theme of a new artistic chapter. This innovative approach not only energised the atmosphere but also reflected the team’s willingness to explore cross-cultural artistic expressions.
The event also received strong support from numerous corporate sponsors. The main sponsors included Dcard, Indomie, Danish House, and Takumi Steamboat. Their generous contributions provided vital resources that enabled the success of this student-led cultural and charity project.
Guided by the principle of “giving back to society,” the Yichuan series aims to spread love and hope through the power of art. After deducting necessary expenses, a portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to UTAR Hospital to support its development and medical services.
In line with UTAR’s vision to provide holistic education, the Yichuan initiative reflects the university’s emphasis on nurturing not only academic excellence but also civic responsibility, creativity, and leadership among its students. Events like Yichuan empower students to connect their talents with meaningful causes, creating impact beyond the classroom.
Academic advisor Ms Alison Yoon stated, “We will continue striving to make Yichuan better and provide students with bigger stages to shine.” She also announced that Yichuan 5.0 is scheduled for September at UTAR’s Dewan Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, with the goal of attracting over 1,000 attendees, continuing the mission of uniting art and charity.
The organising team expressed heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, performers, volunteers, and audience members for making Yichuan 4.0 a resounding success that brought warmth and inspiration to the community.
Also present were UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, along with UTAR staff and students.
