The Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) at UTAR Sungai Long Campus hosted the vibrant and inspiring Doodletopia Exhibition 2025 from 16 to 18 May 2025 at The Grey Box, GMBB, Kuala Lumpur. The three-day event celebrated the culmination of creative journeys by final-year students from the Department of Multimedia Design & Animation (DMDA).
The exhibition, organised by FCI DMDA lecturers Puan Suhaila binti Ahmad Zaki and Mr Hafez bin Zainudin, provided a vibrant platform for students to showcase their final-year projects to a diverse audience comprising industry professionals, lecturers, fellow students, and members of the public.
The exhibition was officially launched with an opening ceremony graced by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, who delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the importance of creativity and innovation in the digital age. Also present were FCI Dean Assoc Prof Dr David Tneh Cheng Eng and DMDA Head Dr Wan Irma Sabrina binti Idris, who offered words of encouragement to the graduating cohort.Ribbon-cutting ceremony (second from left): Puan Suhaila, Dr Wan, Mr Hafez, Dr Tneh and Prof Dato’ Ewe
The showcase featured an impressive variety of student projects, including 2D and 3D short animations, branding and identity design, web design, advertising campaigns, and publishing projects such as books and magazines. Each booth was uniquely curated to reflect the personality and vision of the respective student and included physical displays, video screenings, live demonstrations, and QR codes linked to digital portfolios.
A major highlight of the event was a series of engaging industry talks by leading professionals. Among them were Mr Tony Chua and Mr Nigel Koay from Rtist, who shared insights on leveraging the Rtist platform for creative job opportunities; Mr Kelvin Chow from Omens Studio, who spoke about the process of developing original intellectual property (IP) for animation; and Mr Chua Sang Yeee from Polygon Pictures, who provided guidance on the animation pipeline, studio roles, and portfolio development.
Students expressed that the exhibition was a valuable learning experience, allowing them to engage with the public and industry guests, receive feedback, and gain confidence in presenting their work. The event also included musical and dance performances by students and external talents, further adding to the lively atmosphere.
Overall, the Doodletopia Exhibition 2025 was a resounding success, not only in celebrating student achievements but also in bridging the gap between education and the creative industry.Clockwise, from top left: Prof Dato’ Ewe, Dr Tneh, Dr Sabrina, Doodletopia 2025 Project Managers, Rouqi Ng and Brandon Lim delivering their speeches
