UTAR was honoured to receive a generous donation of over 60 transportation-related publications from China Communications Press (CCPress) at a Book Donation Ceremony held on 23 May 2025 at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony took place in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2025 and marked a significant step forward in fostering academic and cultural exchange between Malaysia and China.
Representing CCPress was the Deputy Director of the Educational Division, Mr Weng Zhixin, who highlighted the publisher’s long-standing commitment to advancing the field of transportation through academic collaboration. In his address, he shared that CCPress, China’s leading publisher in transportation and infrastructure, has published more than 40,000 titles to date. He added, “The 66 books we proudly donate to UTAR span critical areas such as transportation policy, smart construction technologies, and academic textbooks. Each volume reflects the ingenuity of China’s transportation pioneers and we hope they inspire innovation in UTAR’s engineering programmes.”
Speaking on behalf of UTAR, Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Dr Zuraidah binti Abd Manaf expressed deep appreciation for the donation. She said, “Today’s event is more than a ceremonial handover; it is a celebration of knowledge and shared values. These books are not just additions to our library, but vital academic tools that will enrich our curriculum, support research, and inspire critical and creative thinking.”
Also present at the ceremony was Prof Dr Chen Baochun from Fujian University of Technology and Fuzhou University, who played a pivotal role in initiating and coordinating the donation. Reflecting on his past role as an external examiner for UTAR’s Bachelor of Civil Engineering programme, he noted the need to bridge the gap in Chinese-language engineering resources at UTAR. “Introducing Chinese books empowers students to explore China’s cutting-edge engineering technologies and enhances employability in Chinese enterprises,” he said. Prof Chen also expressed his hope for deeper trilateral collaboration between UTAR, CCPress, and Fujian University of Technology.
CCPress Highway Books Center Editor Mr Li Pei, Copyright Editor Ms Yang Ming, UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Department of Civil Engineering Head Ir Ts Dr Yip Chun Chieh, academic Dr Ong Chuan Fang, Office of International Affairs Ms Liu Dan, and representatives from various China publishers also participated in the book fair.
UTAR extends its heartfelt gratitude to China Communications Press for their generous contribution and looks forward to further collaborative efforts that support the advancement of education, research, and cultural exchange.Prof Zuraidah (left) receiving certificate and the list of donated books from Mr Weng
