A 21-member Malaysian delegation comprising rail experts and government officials participated in the 2025 International Rail Transit Expert Forum hosted by Beijing Jiaotong University from 27 to 30 October 2025. The exclusive forum served as a key platform for knowledge exchange, showcasing China’s advancements in rail technology while highlighting Malaysia’s aspirations for rail development and industry growth.
The four-day programme featured presentations, dialogue sessions and technical visits aimed at offering participants a comprehensive understanding of China’s rail transit ecosystem. Representing Malaysia, three speakers contributed expert insights on national rail developments and future directions.
Chairperson of the Centre for Railway Infrastructure and Engineering (CRIE) Assoc Prof Ir Dr Chua Kein Huat and Ministry of Transport representative Mr Siew Wai Kit delivered a co-presentation titled Overview of Malaysia’s Rail Transit Development and Industrial Demand, in which they outlined the nation’s strategic priorities, ongoing rail projects and emerging opportunities for industrial collaboration. Meanwhile, Principal Analyst from the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) Ms Nik Sufini Nik Mohamed presented Building Rail Talent: The Power of Collaboration for a Future-Ready Workforce, emphasising the importance of industry–academia partnerships in developing a skilled talent pipeline to support Malaysia’s modern rail network.
In addition to the presentations, the delegation participated in a series of technical visits to leading Chinese rail organisations. These visits included the Beijing Jiaotong University Rail Historical Museum, where delegates gained insights into the historical evolution and progress of China’s rail technology. They also toured the operations of Beijing MTR Corporation (BJMTR), observing integrated urban rail services and commuter management practices. Further engagements at China Railway Signal & Communication Co., Ltd. (CRSC) and Traffic Control Technology Co., Ltd. (TCT) provided the delegation with direct exposure to advanced signalling, communication and intelligent control systems that underpin safe and efficient rail operations in China.
A dedicated session titled Dialogue between China and Malaysia Rail Industry facilitated meaningful exchanges between rail stakeholders from both countries, focusing on potential collaborations, technology transfer and joint initiatives to support Malaysia’s rail industry growth.
The participation of the Malaysian delegation reflects the nation’s commitment to enhancing its rail transit ecosystem. The forum is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation and pave the way for new partnerships that align Malaysia’s industrial needs with China’s technological strengths, contributing to the development of a more robust and future-ready rail system for the country.
