Seeking to advance UTAR’s international cooperation efforts, President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat led a delegation to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China on 20 November 2025. 

The delegation comprised Director of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Director of the Tun Tan Cheng Lock Institute of Social Studies Assoc Prof Dr Chin Yee Mun, Chairperson of the ASEAN Research Centre for a Community with Shared Future (ACSF) Dr Soon Thean Bee, and Assistant Manager of the Tun Tan Cheng Lock Institute of Social Studies Mr Lee Jenn Yuan. They were warmly received and personally hosted by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia, His Excellency (H.E.) Ambassador Ouyang Yujing.

At the start of the meeting, UTAR President Prof Dato’ Ewe conveyed his sincere appreciation to H.E. Ambassador Ouyang Yujing for granting the audience. He then briefed the Ambassador on UTAR’s latest developments, key initiatives, and ongoing efforts to strengthen international engagement.

Dr Soon later provided an overview of the establishment of the UTAR ACSF in April 2025 and highlighted the Centre’s key achievements up to mid-November 2025. Her presentation was followed by Dr Lai, who outlined the extensive collaborations between UTAR and various universities and enterprises in China across a broad range of academic and industrial fields. 

In response, H.E. Ambassador Ouyang Yujing expressed his appreciation for UTAR’s continuous efforts in promoting academic and cultural exchanges and welcomed the establishment of the ACSF. He also noted that the Embassy would explore potential avenues to support the Centre’s future initiatives.
