Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) lecturer Ms Khor Gee Khing and FCI Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Dr Cynthia Lau Pui-Shan, together with eight final-year Bachelor of Corporate Communication (Honours) students, organised Paws 5, a heart-warming event held on 13 September 2025 at the SPCA Selangor Animal Shelter in Ampang. The event gathered 15 participants to volunteer, learn, and show support for stray animals.
The aim of Paws 5 was to raise awareness on adopting strays and to inspire people to adopt pets instead of buying them. Organised as part of the students’ final-year project under the UJMC3034 Event Planning and Management 2 module, the event was held in collaboration with SPCA Selangor, one of Malaysia’s oldest animal welfare organisations.

SPCA Selangor Marketing Manager Ms Cozzane said, “Thank you for organising such a meaningful campaign with SPCA Selangor. It is inspiring to see young people act and show compassion for animals, as well as spread awareness about animal welfare. Let us make a positive impact together.”
The day started with registration and an opening ceremony, followed by a volunteering session at the cattery. Participants then joined Pawsitive Connection, a dog-walking activity designed to bond with the shelter dogs. After a lunch break, they took part in Pawfect Workshop, a DIY dog leash activity. Later, Ms Cozanne delivered an educational talk titled Adopt & Empower, which focused on adopting and caring for stray animals. The event ended with a Q&A session called Pawflect, where participants shared their thoughts and asked questions.

The event was supported by Pet’s Academy (Platinum Sponsor), alongside Silver Sponsors Notti, Fukumaru, Purina, Alpha Pets and KFD. With the support of SPCA Selangor, the students were able to provide participants with a meaningful hands-on experience with the animals.
Paws 5 also gained attention online through its Facebook, Instagram and XiaoHongShu accounts (@pawsfive_5), reaching animal lovers and generating strong engagement. Feedback showed that participants found the event informative and inspiring, with many enquiring about future activities.
