LKC FES academic conferred IEM Fellow at national engineering convention

In a prestigious milestone that underscores the University’s commitment to excellence in engineering and leadership, Ir Prof Dr Khoo Hooi Ling was officially conferred the title of Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (FIEM) during the Engineer Convention 2025. The conferment ceremony took place on 12 September 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, under the auspices of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM).

The FIEM is the highest professional grade conferred by IEM, awarded to distinguished engineers who have demonstrated outstanding contributions, leadership, and service to the engineering profession and society at large. Reserved for individuals who exemplify excellence in engineering practice and ethical standards, this title places recipients among the nation’s most influential engineering minds. Fellows are entrusted with responsibilities that shape national policy, mentor future engineers, and steer critical discourse in both industry and academia.

A dedicated academic and professional, Prof Khoo currently serves at UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), where she has consistently advanced initiatives that bridge research, education, and societal impact. The conferment recognises her sustained commitment to engineering innovation, education, and capacity-building, both within the University and through her contributions to Malaysia’s engineering landscape.

“To be honoured by IEM is to be entrusted with the mission of shaping a more sustainable, equitable, and intelligent engineering future for generations to come,” shared Prof Khoo, reflecting on the significance of the award. Her recognition not only affirms her leadership and vision but also positions UTAR prominently within Malaysia’s professional engineering community.

Alongside a commemorative certificate and official FIEM pin, the recognition confers added credibility and professional influence, enabling Prof Khoo to further contribute through advisory roles and policy advocacy. In her capacity as a Fellow, she is poised to champion mentorship and spearhead initiatives aligned with sustainable engineering development.
