
A memorable moment as UTAR alumni in Singapore reunite with Prof Dato’ Ewe during the first UTAR Alumni Singapore Gathering
In a heartwarming reunion under the theme Across Borders, Under One Moon, UTAR alumni residing in Singapore came together for the first-ever UTAR Alumni Singapore Gathering on 4 October 2025, held at the Typhoon Café, Singapore.
Jointly organised by the UTAR Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP) and led by Ms Gigi Ng and her team members Ms Siw Jing Ni, Mr Samson Cheong Jia Hou, Mr Sia Liang Chuan, and Mr Marcus Cheah, the event brought together 25 alumni alongside UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, DARP Head Ms Tan Cheng Wah and Manager Ms Kong Pui Ling.

In her opening address, Ms Gigi Ng expressed her gratitude to UTAR and DARP for their continuous support in building a strong alumni network beyond Malaysia’s borders. She emphasised the importance of fostering friendships and professional connections among graduates based in Singapore.
Ms Gigi Ng also introduced the purpose of the gathering. She encouraged alumni working or residing in Singapore to remain engaged with the university community, share their experiences, and contribute to future activities.
In his speech, Prof Dato’ Ewe emphasised the significance of alumni as lifelong ambassadors of the University and remarked, “This gathering is a milestone for UTAR, as it represents not just a reunion of friends and peers, but also the strengthening of a community that transcends geographical boundaries.” He also encouraged alumni in Singapore to continue sharing their experiences, supporting one another, and contributing to UTAR’s growing global reputation.

The gathering concluded on a warm and celebratory note, inspiring participants to stay connected and contribute actively to the alumni community. With this inaugural event laying a strong foundation, UTAR looks forward to organising more meaningful initiatives that will strengthen ties among graduates and extend UTAR’s presence beyond Malaysia. The event truly achieved its aim of uniting alumni ‘across borders’ while reinforcing their lifelong bond with UTAR.
