IMLD hosts professional development programme for Xi’an Traffic Engineering Institute

The Institute of Management and Leadership Development (IMLD) successfully hosted a Professional Development Programme on Enhancing Teaching and Research Competencies for Academic Staff from 2 to 9 August 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. Designed for eight academic delegates from Xi’an Traffic Engineering Institute, China, the programme aimed to enhance teaching methodologies, promote research collaboration, and strengthen international academic networking.

The week-long programme offered a blend of academic seminars, industry visits, and experiential learning activities. Academic sessions covered innovative teaching methods, classroom management strategies, academic career planning, portfolio development, quality assurance mechanisms, and AI-powered higher education. Delegates also took part in a teaching exchange seminar and a dialogue session with UTAR student representatives, creating opportunities for cross-cultural learning and pedagogical exchange.

Hands-on learning formed a key part of the programme, including participation in an Introductory Electromagnetics class, practical experiments on electromagnetic theory, and guided tours of UTAR’s electrical engineering laboratories and workshops. These activities allowed delegates to observe and experience UTAR’s approach to integrating theory with practical application.

Industry engagement was another highlight. Delegates visited Huawei Malaysia’s Customer Solution Innovation Centre to explore developments in Malaysia’s power and energy sector and later joined an industry–academia dialogue at Multimedia University’s Huawei ICT Academy to learn about talent development in the ICT field. The programme also featured a visit to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), which included a sharing session on railway operations and a guided station tour, offering insights into Malaysia’s transportation infrastructure.

Throughout the programme, delegates gained valuable exposure to UTAR’s teaching and research environment, quality assurance practices, and collaborative projects with industry partners. The programme concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony officiated by Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, IMLD Director, marking the successful completion of the training and UTAR’s ongoing commitment to international engagement and professional development in higher education.
