In a dynamic demonstration of clinical excellence and commitment to professional development, UTAR hosted the MBBS Master Class 2025 on 3 September 2025. Held at the M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS), the event brought together aspiring doctors, clinical experts, and academic leaders in a day-long programme designed to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application.

The master class, organised by a dedicated team led by Prof Dr Rosidah binti Ibrahim, Deputy Dean of MK FMHS, alongside Assoc Prof Dr Lee Bee Sun from the Department of Medicine and Assoc Prof Dr Yan Naing Soe from the Department of Surgery, was a robust educational platform for 90 MBBS students in their clinical years. Supported by the UTAR Surgical Student Society, the event also welcomed a panel of 10 internal specialists and lecturers, along with three consultant emergency physicians from Hospital Ampang, who provided valuable expertise and mentorship throughout the sessions.

At its core, the master class aimed to enhance students’ clinical reasoning, sharpen bedside examination skills, and update attendees on the latest protocols in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). These goals were not merely theoretical but were embedded in high-yield case discussions and hands-on simulations that challenged participants to make informed, accurate decisions under pressure.

Students rotated through structured case-based workshops and practical stations, engaging directly with clinicians on topics ranging from acute care management to refined diagnostic strategies. The sessions were specifically curated to reflect evolving medical standards and to ensure students remained aligned with contemporary best practices in emergency and inpatient care.

Reflecting on their experience, many students reported significant growth in their ability to analyse complex cases, correlate clinical findings with diagnostic pathways, and respond effectively to critical scenarios. Exposure to updated resuscitation guidelines was particularly lauded, equipping students with greater confidence and clarity in applying these life-saving techniques. Importantly, the event reinforced the ethos of lifelong learning, reminding future practitioners of the ever-changing landscape of medicine and the need to stay abreast of ongoing advancements.

The MBBS Master Class exemplifies UTAR’s mission to produce competent, ethical, and socially responsible medical professionals. By combining rigorous academic frameworks with experiential learning, the University ensures its medical graduates are well-prepared to serve communities with distinction and compassion.
