Approximately 80 students and six academics from UTAR took part in an educational visit to Great Eastern Malaysia on 17 July 2026. Participants were drawn from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM), Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), and Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI).
Head of the Centre for Excellence Ms Lim Ai Ling delivered the opening remarks, welcoming students to the visit. Chief Executive Officer of Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Bhd Dato’ Koh Yaw Hui also welcomed the delegation and discussed future collaboration opportunities between Great Eastern and UTAR.
One of the highlights of the visit was a session titled Career Opportunities in Great Eastern: Corporate Career Pathway, presented by the company’s Human Capital team. The session introduced students to career opportunities and professional pathways within Great Eastern, while offering insights into the competencies and skills required to build a career in the financial services and insurance industry.
Participants also took part in a Financial Awareness Workshop conducted by the Centre for Excellence and Agency, which provided students with practical financial knowledge and strengthened their understanding of financial planning. In an Agency Sharing Session, Mr Bon Sze Shean from Thrive Group, Bon Associates, shared insights on internship opportunities and career paths available at Great Eastern. The programme concluded with closing remarks from Mr Deric Lye Kah Kiat of the Central 2 Region.
Through the career sharing session, workshop, and agency sharing session, students gained a better understanding of the insurance industry, financial services operations, career opportunities, and practical financial knowledge, connecting classroom learning with real-world industry practices.
UTAR extends its appreciation to Great Eastern Malaysia for its hospitality and for providing students with an enriching industry learning experience. The visit reflects UTAR’s continued commitment to experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry engagement.
