The Institute of Management and Leadership Development (IMLD) hosted the Higher Education Leadership and Teaching Excellence Programme for a delegation of 18 lecturers from Hubei Open University, China, from 19 to 21 August 2026 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.
The three-day programme provided a platform for participants to gain insights into higher education practices and exchange perspectives on teaching, student development, educational quality, and the evolving higher education landscape. It was designed to strengthen participants’ teaching and educational leadership capabilities while broadening their perspectives on contemporary developments in higher education.
The programme was facilitated by a team of experienced UTAR academics, including Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Ir Prof Dr Chang Yoong Choon, academic Ir Prof Dr Khoo Hooi Ling, and Master in Data Management and Analytics and Postgraduate Diploma in Data Management and Analytics Programme Head Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Chen Kang; Faculty of Education Dean Dr Wong Sien Biang; and Department of Student Affairs Kampar Campus Mr Ng Foo Yek. The trainers shared both theoretical insights and practical perspectives drawn from their extensive experience.
The programme featured a series of sharing sessions and interactive learning activities. Participants were introduced to UTAR’s practices and experiences in areas related to educational quality, innovative teaching, student support and development, mental well-being, and the use of artificial intelligence in education.
A keynote session on The Changing Landscape of Higher Education further provided participants with an overview of emerging developments and challenges facing higher education institutions. The session encouraged reflection on the evolving roles of educators and institutions and the need to continuously adapt to changes in the higher education environment.

The programme concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony officiated by IMLD Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, marking the successful completion of the programme. The programme also further strengthened the existing partnership between UTAR and Hubei Open University, while providing opportunities for continued exchange and collaboration in higher education.
