UTAR Strengthens Leadership with Appointment of Pro-Chancellor and Reappointment of Chancellor


UTAR is pleased to announce the appointment of Tan Sri Dato’ Wong See Wah as the Pro-Chancellor of UTAR, effective 13 January 2026. Additionally, Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik has been reappointed as Chancellor of UTAR, with his current tenure reaffirmed on 18 January 2026.

Tan Sri Dato’ Wong See Wah brings to UTAR a distinguished record of public service, leadership, and commitment to education and nation-building. An educator by training, he began his career after obtaining his certificate from Malayan Teacher College, Pulau Pinang, serving in the education sector before transitioning to public service. His career included serving in both state and federal government, where he contributed to national policy development and governance.

Throughout his career, Tan Sri Wong has been an advocate for community development and access to education. Beginning his journey in teaching and extending his leadership across both public and private sectors, he has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to empowering individuals through learning and public service. His career includes representing the Kuala Klawang and Peradong constituencies in the Negeri Sembilan State Assembly and serving as Member of Parliament for Rasah (1990–1999). He also served as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (1990–1995) and Deputy Minister of Finance (1995–1999). With his extensive experience and enduring passion for education, Tan Sri Wong’s vision aligns closely with UTAR’s mission to nurture the next generation of leaders.

Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, appointed as Chancellor in January 2017, has been instrumental to UTAR’s growth and identity and continues to provide distinguished leadership. As a founding father of UTAR, Tun Ling played a vital role in the University’s establishment. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to accessible, quality education have been widely recognised, and his influence continues to shape UTAR’s ongoing development and advancement.

UTAR looks forward to harnessing the profound expertise and guidance of both Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik and Tan Sri Dato’ Wong See Wah as the University enters a new chapter of excellence in education, research and community impact.
