The Institute of Management and Leadership Development (IMLD) at UTAR successfully conducted the Teaching and Research Capacity Enhancement Programme for 25 academic staff from Chongqing Finance and Economics College (CFEC) from 8 to 9 December 2025. The two-day programme was designed to enhance participants’ teaching and research competencies, with a focus on international perspectives in higher education.
The programme was facilitated by a team of experienced UTAR academic staff, including Dr Wong Sien Biang, Dean of the Faculty of Education; Prof Dr Choong Yuen Onn, Deputy Director for Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr Ngeow Yeok Meng, Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training; Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Chen Kang, Head of Programme for Master in Data Management and Analytics and Postgraduate Diploma in Data Management and Analytics; and Ms Catherine See, Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Foundation Studies (Sungai Long Campus). The trainers shared both theoretical insights and practical perspectives drawn from their extensive experience.
The programme addressed key areas essential to academic development, including international education practices, academic writing and research development, innovative teaching approaches, and effective course management. Participants gained a deeper understanding of current global trends in higher education, the expectations of academic writing and research development, as well as practical strategies to enrich classroom engagement and enhance student learning experiences.
Through case sharing and interactive discussions, participants were encouraged to reflect on their own teaching and research practices and explore areas for continuous improvement. The exchange of perspectives also provided opportunities for mutual learning and strengthened academic understanding between UTAR and CFEC.
The programme concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony officiated by the Director of IMLD, Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, marking the successful completion of the programme. This initiative marked a significant milestone in the growing partnership between UTAR and CFEC, reaffirming a shared aspiration to foster international academic collaboration and nurture future-ready educators and institutions.
