UTAR celebrated the academic achievements of its engineering students and graduates at the IOS Award Ceremony held on 24 June 2026 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. Organised by the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), the ceremony recognised outstanding performers from the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Honours (3E), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours (ME), and Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering with Honours (MH) programmes.
Sponsored by IOS Services Sdn Bhd, the ceremony featured the presentation of the IOS Top Student Award, which recognises outstanding academic performance among current students from the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Honours (3E), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours (ME), and Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering with Honours (MH) programmes. The initiative reflects IOS Services Sdn Bhd’s commitment to encouraging academic excellence and supporting the development of future engineering professionals.
Representing IOS Services Sdn Bhd, General Manager Mr Harold Hon presented the awards to the student recipients, accompanied by Ms Alice Ang.
Recipients of the IOS Top Student Award were Lee Hao Yan, Tan Yu Xu and Chow Wen Feng from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme; Sia Yi Yi, Chong Su Xin and Sim Yang Yik from the Mechanical Engineering programme; as well as Javier Lim Junn Jie, Nyam Kah Lok and Loh Yong Zhi from the Mechatronics Engineering programme.
The IOS Best Graduate Award, also sponsored by IOS Services Sdn Bhd, recognises the graduate with the highest cumulative grade point average (CGPA) from each of the three engineering programmes. For the August 2026 Convocation, the award recipients are Bong Qin Zhe (Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Sim Yang Hong (Mechanical Engineering), and Tiew Mang Kit (Mechatronics Engineering). Each recipient will receive a cash prize of RM1,000 and a certificate during the convocation ceremony.

Adding value to the event, Ir Dr Cheong Thiam Fook from The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and the management of IOS Services Sdn Bhd delivered a career talk titled Engineering Career Development during the UTAR Faculty Information Day. Drawing on his professional experience, he shared insights into the engineering profession, career progression, and the importance of continuous professional development, encouraging students to equip themselves with both technical expertise and professional competencies as they prepare to enter the industry.
The award ceremony and career sharing session underscored the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in nurturing engineering talent. By recognising academic excellence while exposing students to industry perspectives, the initiative provided encouragement for students to strive for excellence and prepare for successful careers in the engineering profession.
Through collaborations with industry partners such as IOS Services Sdn Bhd and professional bodies including The Institution of Engineers Malaysia, UTAR continues to strengthen the connection between academic learning and industry expectations, ensuring its graduates are well prepared to contribute to the engineering profession and society.
