The Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) received a significant boost to its artificial intelligence capabilities with the handover of three units of MSI EdgeXpert Personal AI Supercomputers (EDGEXPERT-42SMY, ARM 20-Core CPU, 128GB, 4TB) on 5 May 2026 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The donated equipment, valued at RM55,650.00 in total, was contributed through an industry-education collaboration initiative and is intended to support upcoming AI courses and project-based learning at the faculty.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by LKC FES Dean Ir Prof Dr Chang Yoong Choon, alongside Datuk Nicole Wong, Special Officer to the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Ms Kenix Tan Shwu Luan, representative of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia. Also present at the ceremony were LKC FES Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Department of Computing Head Ts Dr Hoo Meei Hao, Assoc Prof Dr Khor Kok Chin and Dr Ng Keng Hoong.
The MSI EdgeXpert Personal AI Supercomputer is a high-performance edge computing system designed to handle demanding AI workloads, making it well suited for research, hands-on learning, and project development. With its advanced processing capabilities, the equipment is expected to provide LKC FES students and academics with the tools they need to engage meaningfully with AI technologies in a practical setting.
Prof Chang said, “We are truly grateful for this generous contribution. These supercomputers will go a long way in enhancing our students’ exposure to real-world AI applications and strengthening the faculty’s capacity to deliver quality, future-ready education.”
