The Centre for Corporate and
Community Development (CCCD) organised a CEO Talk Series “Making a
Difference: My journey as an Entrepreneur” on 19 February 2020 at
UTAR Sungai Long Campus, featuring
My
Care Concierge Sdn Bhd CEO-cum-Co-founder Martin Yap Lu Hoong.
Yap introduced the services
offered by the company, namely Elderly Care, Post-Hospitalisation Care,
Specialised Care, Medical Procedures, Physiotherapy, Medical Oxygen, Shop
Care, Day Care, Nursing Home and Palliative Care. Besides explaining the
types of services, Martin Yap also spoke about the background and operations
as well as the awards received by My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd.
The talk session continued with
Martin Yap sharing his experience of venturing into this business and the
entrepreneurial strategies he used to kick-start his business as well as how
My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd adapted to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Martin Yap said, “If you don’t
have the tenacity or the passion, you will constantly doubt yourself whether
to continue the business you intend to in the first place. Nothing in life
is the same as we move into the fourth industrial revolution, so being
adaptive is very important apart from putting more effort than everyone else
in order to achieve your goal.”
“In any business, it is important
to find the right people to work along the journey because everyone is
equipped with different skills. However, we also need to always have the
mentality to continuously seek for growth within ourselves through various
resources. Remember to be open to challenges because it also means you are
ready to move forward and to acquire new knowledge and experiences,” added
Martin Yap
Martin Yap was an architect before
venturing into My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd. Ten years ago, Martin’s mission
was to revolutionise the state of aged-care where he spearheaded the design
for the award-winning Green Leaf Retirement Resort (Best Retirement Resort
Asia Pacific – International Property Awards 2012) and consequently
developed, designed and operated “The Mansion”, a 75-bed premium nursing
home facility in Kuala Lumpur which achieved full capacity in just 14
months. He then founded CARE Concierge to also provide an option for seniors
to age in the comforts of their home, promoting the concept of
ageing-in-place and disrupting eldercare industry with the use of technology
and good design.
