Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia visits Kampar Campus

UTAR was graced by a visit from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia at Kampar Campus on 31 July 2022. The visit aimed to build rapport and promote mutual understanding between UTAR and the Embassy of China as well as discuss opportunities for future collaboration.

The delegates from the Embassy of China were led by Minister Tang Rui. He was accompanied by Counsellor Zhao Changtao, First Secretary Pei Guichun and First Secretary Wang Nan, Second Secretary Zuo Hongsheng, Third Secretary Zhang Hao and Attache Zhang Tian.

They were welcomed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato' Dr Ewe Hong Tat, accompanied by UTAR Council Member Hew Fen Yee, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Faculty of Science (FSc) Dean Assoc Prof Dr Lim Tuck Meng, Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) Dean Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Liew Soung Yue, Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FAS) Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Ts Dr Khor Kheng Kia, Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Dr Lo Po Kim, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) Deputy Dean  for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Ling Liong Ngo, UTAR T&CM Centre Director-cum-Principal Practitioner Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong, UTAR staff and UTAR Hospital staff.

This was the first visit made by the Embassy of China to UTAR Kampar Campus. The visit saw both parties having a preliminary discussion on potential collaboration during a lunch meeting at Grand Kampar Hotel. Apart from introducing the University and UTAR Hospital, information about the Malaysian education system, the uniqueness of the Malaysian community, the Chinese community, religion, culture, history and places of attractions in Perak were also shared with the delegates.

The delegates were then brought to visit several places of attraction such as Dewan Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, Library, Bronze Sculptures and so on during a campus tour at Kampar Campus. The delegates also had a hospital tour to UTAR T&CM Centre, which was led by Prof Ewe.

Before this, UTAR visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia on 14 June 2022. The visit aimed to introduce UTAR and highlight its international collaborations with universities and corporates in China, and discuss potential collaborations.
