UTAR and Johor Cricket Council (JCC)
signed a memorandum of understanding on 14 January 2022 at Johor Cricket
Academy and Oval, Johor Darul Ta’zim. Under this MoU, UTAR and JCC will
explore possible collaboration to encourage joint research and development
(R&D), facilitate industrial placement for UTAR students, foster
industry-academic cooperation as well as organise joint short courses,
training, and many more collaborative activities.
Signing the
MoU were UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat and JCC President Datuk
Avinderjit Singh. Witnessing the signing of documents were UTAR Faculty of
Medicine and Health Sciences Head of Physiotherapy Department Muhammad Noh
Zulfikri bin Mohd Jamali and JCC Deputy President Idris bin Abdul Rahman.
Prof Ewe
enthused, “The MoU today will certainly mark a closer tie with Johor Cricket
Council as the University always believes that this kind of collaboration
promotes mutual learning between academia and industry.
The University is aware of the importance of sports in
the development of human capital. There is no doubt that sports like cricket
can help build character and leadership development which are vital parts of
a balanced education.”
Datuk
Avinderjit Singh said, “The collaboration with UTAR involves sports science
education, research and development programmes, and the involvement of
sports science experts and consultants on fitness with the Johor cricket
team.
This is not only to produce more high-performing
cricketers but also to excel academically.”
Also present
at the event was UTAR Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ts
Dr Faidz bin Abdul Rahman who was elected
as
the vice president of the Johor Cricket Council for 2021/2022.
