The
UTAR STEM Outreach organised a two-hour workshop titled The Heart Touching
Moment for 10 children aged four to nine years old on 19 February 2023 at
UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The workshop also saw the participation of 10
parents and it was facilitated by academic staff from the Centre for
Foundation Studies of Sungai Long Campus.
Among
the activities conducted during the workshop included introducing the
circulatory system, using a stethoscope to listen to the heartbeat,
dissecting a goat’s heart, assembling organs in a human model and making a
heart key chain. The activities were conducted along with the parents.

The
workshop started with a student helper explaining the circulatory system to
the kids and the parents. She introduced the organs and functions of the
circulatory system, the different sides of the heart, oxygenated and
deoxygenated blood, etc. Thereafter, the kids and parents were given a
chance to listen to their heartbeat using the stethoscope. The workshop
concluded with a session on assembling organs in a human model. The session
saw the kids and parents interacting actively with each other.
