The symposium invites academicians, scholars and researchers with broad and diverse research interests in media and communication from around the world to listen, meet, exchange, and engage in the latest emerging issues on media and communication in today's new media ecology. Assistant Professor Dr. Sleiman El Bssawmai from College of Arts and Sciences Faculty, Abu Dhabi University will be the keynote speaker of the symposium.

UTAR Popular Science Series: How to turn an Engineer to an Inventor?


Engineers are trained to solve problems with their knowledge of science and mathematics to create solutions that make our lives easier and more efficient. But what if an engineer wants to go beyond solving problems and creating something new, or what if they want to be an inventor? The path from engineer to inventor is not always easy. It requires creativity, perseverance, and a willingness to take risks. But it is also a rewarding path that can lead to a lifetime of innovation.

International Virtual Short Course: “Sustainable Cities and Communities”


Co-organised by the Department of Mass Communication of Faculty of Creative Industries, UTAR; Universitas Muhamadiyah Sidoarjo, Indonesia (Public Administration Program Study); Universitas Islam Malang, Indonesia; and Burapha University, Thailand, the International Online Short Course “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” aimed at providing valuable knowledge on sustainable urban and community development in Southeast Asia and its implications in the socio-economic field. 

Date: 17 July 2023 - 27 July 2023 

The short course is limited to 25 participants from UTAR on a first come, first serve basis. 

Students will be able to claim 15 USSDC points for this programme and are required to attend at least 80% (or 10 lessons) of the 13 lessons.

Moving towards Net Zero Society: Taiwan's Experience


Taiwan recently promulgated the Climate Change Response Act which specifically incorporate the Netzero Emission Goal by 2050. The law provides national goals and implementation instruments aiming to achieve netzero emission. The speech briefly introduces the main features of the Act with special reference to policy development concerning energy transition and natural-based solutions in Taiwan.

Video Abstract: The Making and The Application for Scholarly Communication


A video is worth a million words, and a scientific video abstract could immerse your publication readers into the world of discovery, telling them they must read your paper. Most researchers need 7-10 passes to understand a scientific paper. But if the author can provide a video abstract at the article level, it helps the readers to speed up the reading with better comprehension. But there are questions and challenges for a scientific author to make a video abstract while authoring a scientific publication, thesis, or dissertation. This workshop will address those questions and challenges, helping researchers to create a high-quality video abstract faster and more cost-effective. You will also learn about the different applications of video abstracts ranging from hosting on YouTube, sharing through social media like ResearchGate, improving scientific presentation, and strengthening the credential for fundraising. Malaysia has been China's top trading partner within Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) since 2008. In fact, Malaysia is the first country in ASEAN to established diplomatic relations with China back 1974. The two-way trade volume between China and Malaysia in 2021 reached $70.75 billion, making Malaysia China's third-largest trade partner in Asia. The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited the People’s Republic of China from 29 March to 1 April 2023 discuss the strategic elements of bilateral relations. Malaysia continues to receive investment commitments and a high amount of confidence among businesses and industrial figures in China. Therefore, with this webinar sharing, the review of business practice, basic valuation, factors analysis as well as financial cooperation in understanding comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
