Fundamental Of AI-Deep-Learning Applications to Medical Image Diagnosis

Today, it is the third artificial intelligence (AI) boom, and the medical field is no exception. In particular, the "deep learning" technology in AI, which is a type of "machine learning" method, in which computers learn by themselves (learning features and rules), has reached a level where the accuracy of image recognition exceeds that of humans. Computer-aided detection/diagnosis for medical images, so-called CAD, is rapidly entering the mainstream of practical medicine. It has already become a part of the routine clinical work especially for the detection/diagnosis of breast cancer with mammograms (breast imaging), in which the computer output is used as a "second opinion" in assisting physician's image interpretation. Recent powerful AI technology including deep learning advances the development and improving performance of CAD to the next stage, sometimes called as AI-CAD. In this talk, the state-of-the-art of AI-CAD including COVID-19 image diagnosis and some issues to be solved will be reviewed and discussed.

Bacteria Profiling with Whole-Metagenome Sequencing and 16S rRNA Gene Sequencing

Amplicon sequencing of taxonomic marker genes such as the 16S rRNA gene in bacteria has been used over the last two decades to survey the microbiota of myriad environments. From soil to aquatic to human systems, 16S rRNA amplicon sequences are widely used to characterize the diversity and composition of the gut microbiome, discover novel microbes, and define how specific microbes link to environmental or host traits of interest. Next generation sequencing (NGS) based 16S rRNA gene sequencing has proven invaluable in efforts designed to uncover the potential contribution of microbiomes to critical ecological and health processes. In this seminar, we will be covering Whole-Metagenome Sequencing and 16S rRNA Sequencing which are commonly used for identification, classification and quantitation of microbes of a given samples. You will learn about the basic principles, workflow and applications of NGS. Come and let us help you find the right solutions to get the definitive answers where it matters most in your research!
